Helicopter Turbine Conversion

We offer helicopter turbine conversions.  A turbine conversion is converting from a piston powered helicopter to a turbine powered helicopter.

A turbine engine is vastly different to that of a piston engine; and requires specialised training by one of our instructors.

The Bell 206 Helicopter is a good example of a turbine powered helicopter.

A helicopter turbine conversion is the process of upgrading a helicopter’s powerplant from a piston engine to a turbine engine. Turbine engines are more powerful, efficient, and reliable than piston engines, and they offer several advantages for helicopter operations.

The most common type of turbine engine used in helicopter conversions is the turboshaft engine, which is specifically designed for use in helicopters. Turboshaft engines produce more power at higher altitudes, allowing a helicopter to fly faster and carry more weight. They also have a longer lifespan and require less maintenance than piston engines.

The conversion process typically involves removing the existing piston engine and installing the new turbine engine, along with any necessary modifications to the helicopter’s transmission, rotor system, and other components. The process can be done in a factory or a specialized turbine conversion center. The cost of conversion varies depending on the type of helicopter and the engine chosen, but it can be significant.

It’s important to note that turbine conversion also require additional training for the pilot and maintenance personnel as the operation and maintenance of turbine engine is different than that of a piston engine.

The conversion process can also involve adding new avionics and other equipment, such as engine monitoring systems, to take advantage of the turbine engine’s capabilities.

Overall, a helicopter turbine conversion can significantly improve the performance and safety of a helicopter, making it more suitable for a wider range of operations, such as long-distance travel, high-altitude flying, and heavy lifting.
